Job Description

Introduction:  Build Health International (BHI) is looking for a motivated, organized, and mission-driven candidate to support the scale-up of its international Medical Oxygen Program in response to COVID-19.  This position will be responsible for helping to manage relationships between BHI’s technical staff and a variety of global health partners across sub-Saharan Africa, especially providing support in French speaking countries.  The ideal candidate would have strong administrative and organizational skills, proven attention to detail, and an action orientation.  Professional backgrounds of promising candidates could include public health, international relations, engineering, infrastructure, project management, or health systems strengthening.  Success in this role requires a strong willingness to learn, a sense of urgency, and a commitment to scaling up the BHI Medical Oxygen Program in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and other urgent health needs. This position has the option to be a short term contract or long term employment.

About BHI:  BHI is one of the leading NGOs operating at the intersection of medical oxygen and sustainable energy delivery in resource-constrained settings. BHI’s medical oxygen program builds on its unique expertise in the construction and repair of hospitals, clinics, and other health infrastructure in Low-and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).  BHI promotes global equity by developing high-quality health infrastructure to enable access to dignified and affordable healthcare in resource-constrained regions of the world.  Founded in 2014, BHI is a dynamic organization that is growing rapidly to address unmet needs for health facility improvements in response to COVID-19 and other pressing public health challenges in LMICs.  This position will interact with a wide variety of members of the BHI team, including architects, engineers, project managers, and senior BHI leadership, as well as external partners.

Responsibilities include: 

    • Serve as a liaison between BHI Team and Global Health partners engaged in medical oxygen and health systems strengthening efforts across sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Latin America, and The Caribbean
    • Coordinate and lead meetings with various high-level stakeholders including local ministries of health, consultants and technical oxygen working groups, particularly in French-speaking countries across sub-Saharan Africa 
    • Collaborate with the BHI oxygen team to assist in the management of high priority oxygen projects and BHI technical staff based in French-speaking countries 
    • Travel as needed to meet with local implementing partners, ministries of health, government administrators, and global health partners to facilitate BHI’s technical assistance in support of country-wide oxygen capacity
    • Work with the BHI technical team to translate medical oxygen specification, partnership requests, and implementation documents to ensure success of large-scale global medical oxygen investments including projects supported by The Global Fund C19RM, UNITAID, WHO, Partners In Health, CHAI and PATH
  • Ensure effective coordination and information sharing between BHI’s biomedical engineers, electrical engineers, the architectural team, partnership management, development and communications, administration, and senior leadership

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and professional experience in a nonprofit, public policy, or global health-related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including fluency in French
  • International experience or administrative experience in a health setting is preferred 
  • Mission-driven and service-oriented
  • Strong organizational skills and project management skills, including attention to detail

Compensation:  Competitive base salary commensurate with experience.
