Build Health International
Project Introduction
With every assessment and repair that BHI completes, our goal is to ensure that local technicians have the tools and training they need to maintain oxygen infrastructure and complete future upgrades. In Lesotho, BHI trained local biomedical technicians and hospital maintenance staff to sustainably repair and maintain PSA plants and related systems.

Project Description
Capacity strengthening is a core tenant of BHI’s work. During each oxygen site visit, our team of biomedical engineers intentionally engages with and works alongside hospital staff to provide demonstrations, answer questions, and train technicians on operation and maintenance of PSA plants and related oxygen infrastructure. In April 2022 BHI hosted an intensive practical and curriculum-based training for two dozen technicians at the Botšabelo Hospital in Lesotho. This training was facilitated in partnership with the Clinton Health Access Initiatvel and Bo-Mphato Lits'ebeletsong, as Partners in Health is known locally. We are exploring the feasibility of opening an on-site training center in East and West Africa.
These trainings will help to equip professionals with the skills, perspective, and support network to ensure long-term functionality of essential oxygen infrastructure in their hospitals and health facilities. Together, these activities allowed for the oxygen production and maintenance of core systems to be strengthened throughout the country.
