Build Health International (BHI) and the DAK Foundation have launched an effort in sub-Saharan Africa to provide rapid, independent assessments of broken PSA oxygen plants in Malawi and Burundi with the goal to carry this initiative to the most vulnerable countries in Africa.
This critical work to meet the needs of the global pandemic and strengthen health systems for the future cannot be done alone and BHI is proud to partner with NGOs, Ministries of Health, Local Communities and Funders around the world.
As a member of the Every Breath Counts Coalition (EBC) we can access and mobilize the resources and advocacy power of the Coalition for this project including working alongside Assist International, Clinton Health Access Initiative, Partners In Health, PATH, World Health Organization and many others. Our Oxygen Expertise
Since 2010, Build Health International (BHI) has been one of the leading NGO’s at the intersection of medical oxygen delivery and energy in LMICs. Through the development of Hôpital Universitaire de Mirebalais (HUM), a university teaching hospital in rural Haiti, BHI created a medical gas standard, a hybrid system of piped oxygen, medical air and vacuum ventilation that has become the basis of design for BHI to design and implement safe, sustainable, medical gas pipelines in many LMICs over the last ten years.
Our Oxygen Team has developed expertise in the design, procurement, maintenance, and repair of PSA plants across the Caribbean, East and West Africa, they have a track record of success solving plant difficulties and related “comorbidities'' that prevent plant function.
In many low resource settings, the limiting factor in producing oxygen is the availability and reliability of electricity. BHI keenly understands this barrier and their expertise extends beyond PSA plants and pipeline to electricity generation, power conditioning and distribution. Our team has extensive experience with solar battery solutions from Niger and Haiti and critical oxygen repairs from Sierra Leone to Peru to rapidly treat patients not only in the immediate need but for the long-term future.
