Build Health International
Project Description
BHI received the request to provide technical support to the Ministry of Health in Guinea in March of 2022. The BHI team provided remote support for medical oxygen plant specification development until receiving the request to visit prospective hospitals in July 2022. BHI mobilized two teams to assess a total of nine hospitals throughout Guinea. The BHI team produced reports for all sites, including plant specification recommendations, plant site recommendations, and recommendations for new oxygen infrastructure and oxygen infrastructure upgrades.
Three sites received oxygen plants with the support of The Global Fund, and BHI produced reports for all sites in order to ensure the MOH could use BHI’s recommendations to procure plants for other sites, if other opportunities arose. BHI supported the procurement and site preparation process for Guinea, reviewing technical specifications, construction plans, and technical drawings at the MOH’s request. BHI received a request to provide Management and Maintenance training to administrators and biomedical technicians in September 2024.
Following the success of this training, the MOH requested BHI return to provide more advanced training. In May 2025, BHI provided advanced air compressor and advanced booster compressor training to biomedical engineers in Guinea. This training ensures that engineers have a comprehensive understanding of how to conduct preventative maintenance on equipment when there is no service provider engaged in a service agreement to perform maintenance. A Training of Trainers was also conducted, further increasing the technical knowledge of the biomedical engineering cohort in Guinea by equipping the team with the experience needed to teach BHI’s Maintenance Training independently, as needed. BHI has remained heavily engaged with the MOH in Guinea following the commissioning of the three new PSA plants. At the behest of the MOH, BHI has led virtual sessions to discuss developing Standard Operating Procedures and provides other post-commissioning support to our partners in Guinea.
