At ACEGID, Science Meets Infrastructure

Dr. Christian Happi has led efforts to establish ACEGID as one of the premiere institutions for genomics research throughout the African Continent.

Led by Dr. Christian Happi, the African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Disease (ACEGID), located at Redeemer’s University in Ede, Nigeria. is a state-of-the-art research facility that has emerged as a leading institution for studying infectious pathogens and genomics sequencing. ACEGID has studied the effects of Lassa fever, Ebola, COVID-19, and mpox, as well as other vector-borne illnesses that can lead to outbreaks around the globe.

Following the emergence of COVID-19 in 202o, pandemic preparedness has become even more critical. With input of Dr. Happi, Build Health International designed and developed a new expansion of ACEGID’s campus, including new dormitories, laboratories, classrooms, and other spaces that foster collaborative learning and enable study of genomics of infectious disease.

Dr. Happi and his efforts to strengthen capacity building and laboratory infrastructure within the African and global scientific communities were recently featured in Science Magazine.
